The North East is in for an overcast end to the week as the weather forecast predicts rain to start off the new month, with temperatures largely staying in single figures.
According to the Met Office, tonight (Thursday) will be dry with occasional clear spells in the region before clouds thicken around midnight, leading to some light showers by sunrise. Friday is set to feel "much cooler" than earlier in the week, particularly along the coast, with cloud and drizzle throughout.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday will see April get off to a showery start with some light spells of rain, before a drier day on Sunday with some sunshine hopefully set to peek through - although the nights will remain chilly with overnight frost possible.
