North East weather: Hour-by-hour weekend forecast as Newcastle United take on Manchester City

If you're heading to Newcastle for the home match against Manchester City then you'll be pleased to hear the weather will be on your side.

Sunday, August 21 looks set to be the pick of the weekend with a warm and sunny day forecast and highs of 19°C making for ideal conditions for those watching at St James' Park. The evening will turn cloudy but remain dry.

However, for anyone out and about on Saturday afternoon then it's worth taking your umbrella as heavy showers are forecast.

After a bright start to the morning on August 20, the day will turn cloudy before giving way to a heavy downpour at around 4pm and 5pm. Despite this, the showers will make way for a sunny Sataurday evening which will remain mild with temperatures at around 16°C.

A Met Office spokesman said: "Some of the showers on Saturday will be heavy and prolonged in places. It will be rather windy at times and a maximum temperature 21 °C. Sunday will be mostly dry with sunny spells and lighter winds."
