North East weather: Hour by hour as forecast predicts a dull and cloudy Sunday

Forecasters have predicted a dull and wet Sunday for parts of the region.

It's expected to be cloudy with outbreaks of rain in most parts of the North East, with some outbreaks becoming heavy in the afternoon.

The Met Office weather forecast for today states: "Generally cloudy with outbreaks of rain and showers edging northeast, some briefly heavy in the afternoon.

"Perhaps drier later. Feeling cooler. Some light winds at first but breezy in the afternoon, especially along coastal areas. Maximum temperature 17 °C."

The outbreaks are predicted to clear up by this evening, leaving a dry but cloudy night. The forecast for tonight states: "Any rain or showers will clear away north to give a largely dry but cloudy evening and night.

"Remaining breezy though, particularly over hills and coastal areas. Minimum temperature 9 °C."
