Forensic investigation launched into 'unexplained death' as man's body found in Blyth

An investigation has been launched after a man’s body was found in Blyth, with his death currently being treated as unexplained.

A cordon could be seen in the Bowes Court area on Thursday afternoon as a team wearing forensic suits carried out their investigation. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been made aware.

'We all have a collective responsibility to tackle knife crime': Top cop backs Stop Knives Taking Lives campaign

A senior Tyneside police officer has welcomed ChronicleLive's Stop Knives Taking Lives campaign.

The campaign is calling on every community in the region to come together to tackle knife crime after the deaths of Tomas Oleszak from Gateshead, Gordon Gault, 14, from Benwell in Newcastle, and now 15-year-old Holly Newton, from Haltwhistle, Northumberland.

Northumbria Police's Assistant Chief Constable Brad Howe has backed the campaign, saying that "as a society, we all have a collective responsibility to tackle knife crime."

Ashington charity sees energy bills rocket ‘tenfold’ to £950 a month

A Northumberland charity that provides a social hub to veterans and older people has seen its energy bills increase from around £1,000 per year to £950 per month.

Ashington Veterans and Elders institute is not currently at risk of closure but secretary Keith Green says they have had to make some "pretty tough decisions," which include reducing the hours that the heating is on.

Callum Wilson vows not to celebrate if he scores for Newcastle United vs Bournemouth

Newcastle United's number 9 Callum Wilson has said he will not celebrate against his former club AFC Bournemouth this weekend if he scores at the Vitality stadium.

Wilson, who has seven goals in the Premier League this season, signed for the Toon in 2020 for £20 million following Bournemouth's relegation. He scored 61 goals in six years with Cherries, and said on his Footballer's Football podcast that he wouldn't celebrate "out of pure respect."
