North East thunderstorms warning: Hour by hour weather forecast for Monday according to Met Office

With thunderstorms set to hit the North East after moving down from Scotland over the weekend, heavy rain over Monday and Tuesday will see this summer's heatwave seem a thing of the past.

A yellow thunderstorm warning is in place, and rain looks likely to blight Monday afternoon. Tuesday will see a heavy rain all afternoon and evening, the Met Office warned.

Met Office forecasters said: "Cloudier and cooler than recent days, with areas of showers, occasionally heavy and thundery. These merging into persistent rain in places. Still some brighter spells possible however, and feeling humid. Maximum temperature 24 °C."
