North East set for dry and bright weekend but temperatures will drop

If you're hoping for a repeat of last week's scorching temperatures this weekend- you could be disappointed.

Last Saturday and Sunday saw the mercury edge into the 20s across the North East but this weekend is looking much milder, with the Met Office predicting highs of around 16°C for the region.

Despite the cooler feel, it is at least expected to be dry and bright with only a slight chance of rain once Friday is out of the way.

Grahame Madge from the Met Office told us what to expect.

Friday evening

"We'll see some rain through this evening and behind that rain it will be a little bit cooler.

"There will possibly be some heavier rain on the east coast later on.

"Temperatures will be around 13°C or so."

Saturday

"Saturday should reveal some brighter conditions and it will be quite a nice day across the board.

"There will be some cloud but it is a mostly bright and dry day.

"It will be a bit colder overnight but nothing unreasonable.

"Through the day temperatures will be around 16°C and overnight it will be around 9°C."

Sunday

"It will be reasonably bright through the day but there will be more in the way of cloud so there may be some showers on higher ground.

"Along the coast it's looking quite good.

"Temperatures will be at maximum 15°C and overnight it will drop to single figures."
