'North East's biggest beer garden' and Euro 2020 fan zone to open in Newcastle

The 'North East's biggest beer garden' will open in Newcastle for four months this summer once the hospitality sector reopens.

The team behind Newcastle's Oktoberfest and Paddy Fest events will open Central Park Newcastle, a pop-up beer garden with plenty of tables for outdoor eating and drinking in Times Square.

Central Park in Times Square will also host a huge LED screen as the centrepiece, showing live sport, including the delayed Euro 2020 tournament and 2020 Olympic Games.

"Expect Times Square to be transformed into the ultimate beer garden featuring picnic benches, picket fences, festoon lighting for later in the evening, all in one of the most recognisable city centre spots.

Popular street food vendors will be on rotation throughout the project with unmissable culinary delights to enjoy alongside a drink or two," say the organisers, Ape Team Limited and Mish Mash, who describe the venue as the 'North East's biggest beer garden'.

"After a hard year of everyone being unable to leave their homes and socialise, we’re excited to be reclaiming the Great British Summertime, bringing some good times, good food & drink and hopefully some good weather."

Beer gardens can reopen for customers from April 12, if the roadmap to lift lockdown follows its schedule. Indoor service can resume from May 17.

Central Park will open from April 29 until the end of August, from 11am to 11pm.

Co-organiser Mike Hesketh said: “We have had Euro 2020 fan zone at Times Square planned for almost two years now, and now after a year of the pandemic, and the recent roadmap announcement, we're super excited to be not only finally bringing you a huge Covid compliant fan zone site but a huge social space to enjoy with your friends for drinks, to watch sport and other great occasions this summer."

Tables can be booked in groups of 2,4 or 6 for the price of £6 per person, which includes a drink.

Tickets will be available from www.CentralParkNewcastle.co.uk shortly.
