North East leaders throw weight behind Passionate People, Passionate Places campaign

This week The Journal and The Chronicle have re-launched the Passionate People, Passionate Places campaign.

The initiative to raise regional pride and togetherness has been widely praised around the North East - here is what some politcal, business and education leaders have been saying:

“At Teesside University we are proud to collaborate with businesses and people across the North East, and know first-hand the incredible breadth of world-beating, talent, ingenuity and innovation that exists in this region, including many of our own graduates. We are pleased to see the Passionate People, Passionate Places campaign take forward this message to a national and international audience.”

Prof Paul Croney, vice-chancellor and chief executive, Teesside University

“There is much to celebrate about the North East; it’s a fantastic place to live, work and visit, and the Passionate People, Passionate Places campaign encapsulates our pride in our region. We have high ambitions to continually boost our economy, attract investment, enable businesses to thrive and our residents to prosper. From our flourishing tourism industry and tight-knit communities, to rich history and heritage and game-changing industrial developments, our region has so much to offer and this campaign will enable us to collectively tell our story to the wider world.”

Iain Malcolm, leader of South Tyneside Council and chair of the North East Combined Authority

“There is no region like the North East. We should all get on board with this vital campaign and shout from the rooftops about our Passionate People, Passionate Place.”

North West Durham MP Richard Holden

“The North East is a really beautiful part of the world with so much to celebrate and that’s why we are proud to support the Passionate People, Passionate Places campaign. It’s a fantastic opportunity to shout about what’s great about our region, from our rich heritage and history to world-class events, the diverse range of businesses which have chosen to make the North East their home, and of course, our wonderful communities which are at the heart of everything we do. The campaign showcases them all, and gives a clear message that our region should not be underestimated!”

Bob Cook, leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council

“Delighted to see the revival of the Passionate People, Passionate Places campaign”

North Durham MP Kevan Jones

“Passionate People, Passionate Places was a great campaign because it captured the very essence of our region and our people and I was sorry when the Government effectively dismantled it when it abolished One NorthEast. It was a wonderful idea to bring it back as the North East is more effective when it speaks with one voice. Like all successful campaigns its message is as relevant today as it was back then and I hope everyone uses the campaign toolkit to share the images and get a real feelgood factor going in our region.”

Nick Forbes, leader of Newcastle City Council

“Great to see this campaign coming back, promoting our amazing region.”

Tyne and Wear Metro

“We’re right behind the return of the Passionate People, Passionate Places campaign. Wherever you are it’s time for us all to celebrate how bloody brilliant this region of ours is!”

Simon Hanson, North East development manager, Federation of Small Businesses

“We’re delighted to support this. Everyone who works and lives in the North East knows it is an amazing place but we need to shout about it and amplify the great work we do. This campaign will remind us what we have & encourage others to join us.”

“We are pleased to be backing this Tees Valley and regional campaign. The Tees Valley is already leading the way in developing key sectors that will deliver the jobs of the future. Any scheme that drives investment and create the good quality, well-paid jobs we all want to see come to our fantastic region has my backing. We need to be shouting about all the good things on offer and talking up Tees Valley and the wider North East. This will help put our great region on the map.”

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen

“Very happy to bang the drum for the return of Passionate People, Passionate Places. A lot of work has gone into this relaunch so well done to all involved.”
