North East hour-by-hour weather forecast for New Year's Day predicts clouds and drizzle

It's been a wild year in terms of weather across the North East. From battering winds and storms in the spring to scorching heatwaves over the summer, residents up North have seen everything that the elements had to throw at us.

With a new year starting, many will be eager to see what 2023 brings in terms of weather. Thankfully, for January 1 it's not looking too wild, with grey skies and the odd bit of rain throughout the day.

The day's line-up looks to be mostly cloudy from start to finish, with light showers around lunchtime and the odd sunny interval. Temperatures of between 6C and 7C are expected.

The three-hour weather forecast for Monday will see the sun shining completely - looking bright across the board although a little chillier, with maximum highs of 4C.

The Met Office forecast for tomorrow says: "Sunday breezy with occasional showers, which will be heavy, especially over the Pennines. Best of sunny spells across eastern areas.

"Drier later with winds easing by evening. Maximum temperature 8C."
