North East Homeless launch 60 Second Frost Out Challenge to help those living on the streets

Shocking figures have revealed there are more than 1,000 homeless people in the North East.

The North East Homeless (NEH) winter awareness campaign is now wanting to change this.

It is asking people to go outside with no coat on for 60 seconds, record your experience and share it on social media.

It is part of its 60 Second Frost Out Challenge.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the icy temperatures that homeless people are forced to endure.

The challenge was the brainchild of Wallsend dad Brian Burridge.

The 46-year-old said: "We now have 1,000 homeless folk across our North East and it would be great for people to come together to make a difference.

"Our campaign is about highlighting the conditions our homeless community have to live through the winter so now people can experience just 60 seconds of what a homeless persons day is like."

After recording your attempt at the challenge, NEH asks people to share it on social media and then nominate someone to have a go.

The charity has set up a Gofundme page with a link that can be added to the shared videos to help raise much needed funds to help the homeless.

Brian set up NEH after becoming concerned about the lack of hands-on practical help available to people living on the streets.

The registered charity now runs three outreach sessions a week during which volunteers hand out hot food, drinks and blankets in the city.
