North East Bank Holiday weekend weather forecast as sunny spells predicted

After weeks of wind and rain, people in the North East are expected to enjoy some warm weather over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Forecasters predict temperatures could reach 19C over the three-day weekend.

From Friday afternoon, most parts of the UK will see temperatures reach around 20C, the Mirror reports.

The sunshine and warm temperatures are set to continue throughout the weekend with parts of the South East and London could see a high of 23C.

Oli Claydon, from the Met Office, said: "Showers will start to ease and temperatures will increase over the bank holiday.

"There'll be highs of up to 23C for central parts of England and possibly into London.

"There is a slow progression towards warmer and drier conditions."

The North East will have to wait until this weekend to see the sunshine as the Met Office has predicted "developing showers" for this afternoon through to the evening.

The forecast for the region for this weekend states: "The weekend will be dry, bright and feeling warm, but maybe cloudy along the coastlines overnight."

Here is the five day forecast for the North East.

Today:

Cloudy with light rain across the area this morning, slowly brightening up towards midday. Sunny spells this afternoon but some showers developing, mainly towards the west. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Tonight:

Showers quickly easing by early evening to leave a predominantly clear, dry night, although some low cloud possible around the coasts. Cool inland, milder near the coasts. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Thursday:

A bright and sunny day with light winds. Some light showers developing over higher ground to the west, but prolonged sunny spells elsewhere. Feeling warm. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Another fine day on Friday with a few slow-moving showers possible near the coast. The weekend will be dry, bright and feeling warm, but maybe cloudy along the coastlines overnight.
