North Dublin staff refusing to deliver post after An Post 'failed to supply hand sanitiser'

A group of postal staff in Dublin are refusing to deliver post today after An Post 'failed to supply workers with hand sanitiser as requested'.

The North Dublin workers refused to go out on delivery this morning with TD Paul Murphy saying that they were "right to do so".

Derek Keenan, a postal worker and member of the Independent Workers Union, said that the simple request of hand sanitiser had been made as far back as the start of the year but to no avail.

He said: "Staff requested hand sanitiser as far back as January and given the unfolding pandemic were unwilling to take a risk to be out on delivery for up to 6 hours without an ability to sanitise their hands.”

TD Murphy told Dublin Live that no worker should have to work without appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.

He said: "Postal staff in D15 refused to deliver post today without hand sanitiser.

“They refused to go out on delivery this morning as a result of the failure of An Post to provide hand sanitiser as requested - they are right to do so.

"There are numerous workers in essential services who need to be provided with all of the PPE needed in order to do their job for the benefit of society as a whole.”
