North Dublin man arrested after horror stab attack on pub worker in Wexford

A North Dublin man was arrested following a horror pub attack in a Wexford village on Saturday afternoon.

Armed gardai rushed to the scene in the quite area of Ballycanew at around 11.30am on Saturday after the victim managed to flee his attacker and raise the alarm in another pub across the road.

The victim, who works at the pub where the attack happened, was rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Armed gardai rushed to the scene and a Dublin man was later arrested near a hardware shop close by.

It's understood the arrested man, 20s, had been staying in accommodation in the pub where the victim had also resided for the night.

Gardai say the man's detention was suspended as he also required hospital treatment.

Two pubs had been cordoned off all through Saturday but were reopened for business by the evening.

A garda spokesperson confirmed an arrest and said the victim was taken to Wexford General Hospital.

He said: "Gardai are investigating an assault incident that occurred at a public house in the Ballycanew area of Wexford on 19/10/19 at approximately 11:30am.

"A man in his 30s received several stab wounds and was taken to Wexford General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"A man in his 20s has been arrested in relation to the incident. Investigations are ongoing."

It's understood the victim will make a full recovery.
