North Dublin locals in mourning after popular pub, The Swiss Cottage closes down ahead of redevelopment

Locals in a north Dublin suburb are in mourning this week after a well known pub shut its doors for the last time.

The Swiss Cottage in Santry was given an emotional goodbye on Sunday, as revellers dressed in black ties turned out in numbers for one last night out at the local boozer.

Dublin Live reports that the watering-hole on the Santry Road received planning permission for a €10 million development two years ago.

The site is set to be overhauled into a three story complex with a retail unit, a take-away as well as a two-storey restaurant/cafe and plenty of room for office accommodation.

The popular pub held it's "funeral" over the weekend with everyone turning up in black tie.

Another wrote: "Another sad day for the people of Ballymun, Santry our beloved Swiss closed its doors for the last time today.

"Gonna miss this place so much, thanks to all the lovely staff for being the best and thanks for the memories,RIP the Swiss."

Work is set to start on the new development from tomorrow morning.
