North Dublin locals appeal for help for young mum-of-two with terminal cancer facing homelessness

A group of kindly locals are appealing to the public for help in supporting a young mum-of-two with terminal cancer who is facing homelessness this summer.

Howth woman Christine Rossiter, 37, was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer in 2016.

The aggressive form of cancer has spread to her brain, liver and lungs, with conventional treatments yielding a very limited response.

Christine, her partner and their two young children are also facing homelessness as the fixed-term lease on the home they are renting ends in June.

Pals of the much-loved former graphic designer have launched a fundraising campaign to help pay for her living expenses and future medical treatment.

The caring mums said they have two goals in mind with the fundraising efforts.

They said: "The first is to keep her youngest child in the school where he is surrounded by his buddies - our children - but also us, the mothers who know him and can support him while his mother battles this cruel disease.

"Christine's terminal diagnosis ended her career as a graphic designer.

"At a time when they would otherwise have been saving for a deposit, Christine and her partner of 19 years were wrestling with a catastrophic diagnosis and unforeseen loss of earnings.

"Christine and her family have been renting in Howth, but the lease is up in June and won't be renewed, leaving them with no home.

"They are going to need our financial help to find a new home within range of the school."

The group are also hoping to send Christine on any cancer immunotherapy trials in the US she may be suitable for.

They said: "If the right  trial comes up, Christine will have to travel at short notice.

"We want to send her there to give her a chance to benefit from cutting edge medical treatment and provide for accommodation and other expenses."

Almost €15,000 has already been raised for the popular mum, who pals say has dealt with her illness with "characteristic grace and sweetness".
