North Dublin in mourning after well-known pub The Swiss Cottage closes its doors for last time

North Dublin is in mourning this week after one of it's most well known pubs shut its doors for the final times.

Santry's Swiss Cottage gave an emotional goodbye to revellers after Sunday night.

The spot on Santry Road received planning permission for a €10 million development two years ago.

The site is set to be overhauled into a three story complex with a retail unit, a take-away as well as a two-storey restaurant/cafe and plenty of room for office accommodation.

The popular pub held it's "funeral" over the weekend with everyone turning up in black tie.

Distraught locals posted their tributes for the pub calling it "a sad day".

Another wrote: "Another sad day for the people of Ballymun, Santry our beloved Swiss closed its doors for the last time today.

"Gonna miss this place so much, thanks to all the lovely staff for being the best and thanks for the memories,RIP the Swiss."

Another woman said "I actually feel like a person died"

Work is set to start on the new development from tomorrow morning.
