Why Appalachian State Will Win
Amazing so far offensively, the Mountaineers haven’t have any hiccups in their tune-up games against East Tennessee State and Charlotte. The passing game is ultra-efficient, there haven’t been any turnovers, the ground game has been dominant, and it’s all working under new head coach Eliah Drinkwitz.
The competition hasn’t been a killer, but the O is a machine so far with Zac Thomas throwing at will – hitting 68% of his throws for 332 yards and five scores with no picks and a rushing touchdown – and Darrynton Evans averaging over ten yards per carry.
So far, as much fun as North Carolina has been, it can’t convert a third down try – a pathetic 21% so far – and the offensive line isn’t keeping anyone from beating up freshman QB Sam Howell. But …
Why North Carolina Will Win
The Appalachian State secondary has been toasted.
Charlotte was able to bomb away for close to 300 yards with four touchdowns, and now the Mountaineers have to deal with Mr. Howell.
The true freshman made a splash against South Carolina to start the season and has been excellent ever since, coming up with two touchdown passes in each of his first three games while averaging over nine yards per throw. As long as the line gives him time, he’ll push the ball down the field and keep on pressing.
As good as ASU has been in its first two games, again … East Tennessee State and Charlotte. UNC? South Carolina, Miami and Wake Forest. The Tar Heels are more than battle tested for what should be an emotional fight.

What’s Going To Happen
Don’t think that North Carolina isn’t going to take this game very, very seriously.
This will be a blast. Both teams are going to bomb away in what should be a spirited back-and-forth game, but the Tar Heels will do a bit more through the air in the clutch. They’ll survive on a late defensive stop.
