North Bristol area to be hit with weeks of disruption on the roads

Part of north Bristol is set to be hit with weeks of disruption on the roads. Wales & West Utilities is starting work to upgrade part of the gas network in the Westbury Road area of Bristol.

The works will start today (October 24) and, barring any engineering difficulties, it will finish by December 2. Wales & West Utilities said the £120,000 investment work is essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses.

The following traffic management measures will be in place and motorists are advised to allow extra travelling time.

  • A road closure on Parry’s Lane, from the junction of Cote Road/Saville Road to outside 2 Parry’s Lane, from November 14 – 27
  • A road closure on Westbury Road, at its junction with Henleaze Road, from November 21 – December 4

Wales & West Utilities Simon Lee - who is managing this gas pipe upgrade work - said: “While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Bristol.

"Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it. This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.

“We will work as safely and as quickly as possible to finish the work, whilst keeping inconvenience to a minimum for local people and road users.”
