North Berwick Outdoor Pool campaigners are seeking help to bring back the iconic facility

For 100 years North Berwick was home to an incredibly impressive outdoor pool that looked like it was straight out of a Hollywood movie.

Described as an "extraordinary community resource" the pool was often used to teach local children how to swim.

When it wasn't being used by the locals, the pool hosted galas and music nights with live bands.

Many locals were left devastated in 1995 when East Lothian Council announced that the pool was to close to cut costs.

But now a group of locals are looking for volunteers to join the movement to get it back.

Almost 25 years after its closure, a group of like-minded individuals have created a campaign called Bring Back North Berwick Outdoor Pool (BBOP)

BBOP have high hopes that if they can recruit more volunteers to join the campaign, then one day North Berwick's Outdoor Pool could thrive again.

Almost 1500 people have signed a petition started by the group and now they are looking for 'professionals' who can volunteer their time to take the campaign to the next level.

BBOP is hoping they can convince East Lothian Council to reopen the outdoor pool if they get enough community support.

Gill Surfleet, the founding force behind BBOP, said “We are a tiny community of like-minded people and we need people with specialist skills and experience to help get this project up and running and successful in terms of re-opening the pool.

"We are looking for people with social media skills, architects, people with charity and community project experience, lawyers, experts in renewable and sustainable heating systems and of course business aficionados, plus of course many other skills and experiences."

If you are interested in joining the campaign you can email the team on bringbacktheoutdoorpool@gmail.com
