North Ayrshire SNP councillor Joy Brahim resigns from local authority

An SNP politician has resigned from North Ayrshire Council.

It was announced by the local authority this evening that Joy Brahim has tendered her resignation.

No reason has been given for the Ms Brahim's exit from the council.

In a statement, Ms Brahim said she was "grateful to everyone" she'd worked with since she was elected in 2017.

She added: "I am grateful to everyone I have worked with and for over the past four years to serve the Dalry & West Kilbride ward, including constituents and community groups, council officers, and fellow councillors. I extend my best wishes to all.”

Ms Brahim moved to Scotland in 2010 after working as a solicitor in The Netherlands, where she was admitted to the Bar of The Hague and the Supreme Court of The Netherlands.

The Nationalist politician also holds a degree in marketing.

She was elected to North Ayrshire Council in 2017.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “Councillor Joy Brahim has tendered her resignation as ward member for Dalry and West Kilbride.

“Councillor Brahim has served as local elected member since May 2017.

“Since then she has been a strong and active member of the council, sitting on the Audit and Scrutiny Committee, the Local Development Plan Committee and as a substitute member of both the Appeals Committee and Staffing and Recruitment.

“She was also a member of the Garnock Valley Locality Planning Partnership and the North Coast and Cumbrae Locality Planning Partnership.

“We thank Joy for the contribution has made to the council over the past four years and wish her the very best for the future.”
