North Ayrshire's provost praises Marymass festival

North Ayrshire Provost Ian Clarkson has praised organisers and the community for what he has described as one of the ‘best ever’ Marymass Festivals.

The Provost said: “That was some Marymass - a complete all rounder.

“Everyone, every community, played their part to ensure it was one of the best ever.

The provost accepts the traditional invitation to the Moor from Captain Danny Kerr (Irvine Herald)

“It all came together, and I am so proud of all Irvinites and others who took part. It certainly puts Irvine and Marymass on everyone’s minds, no matter what age you are.

“As Provost, I am delighted to say ‘thank you’, and I am already looking forward to next year.”

Captain Danny Kerr was pleased to see a warm community spirit on the day. He said: “Marymass needs community involvement, we couldn’t do what you witness without the help of the community.

“The community played a great part in the parade and it was good to see. The weather was great and the crowds were very welcoming which created a party atmosphere.

“This is my eleventh year as Captain. I’ve had the most enjoyable day.”

Don't forget to pick up your copy of the Irvine Herald this week. We have 12 pages packed with Steve McKendrick's photos from Marymass Saturday.

We have shots of the parade, crowning, horses, greasy pole and lots of people enjoying what was a glorious day.
