North Ayrshire road to close for almost four months for flood defence works

Motorists in Dalry face almost four months of disruption as work continues on the Upper Garnock Valley Flood Protection Scheme.

North Ayrshire Council this week confirmed that the B714 Beith road near the Mill Park housing estate in Dalry will close at 8am on Tuesday, May 4 to allow contractors to construct flood defence measures.

It is scheduled to re-open at 7pm on August 31, or until such date as the works are completed — whichever is the earlier.

The work involves the construction of a 220m long flood defence wall in the verge between Beith Road and Mill Park.

The closure will extend from the entrance to Mill Park to where the road crosses under the town's railway bridge.

There will be no through route for vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians as the footpath will be closed too.

An exclusion zone will be set-up to allow contractors McLaughlin & Harvey to implement a safe system of work that protects both workers and members of the public.

Diversion routes will be in place and these will be clearly signposted whilst local access will be maintained at all times.

North Ayrshire Council say the works will bring great benefits to the local community.

A spokesperson said: "North Ayrshire Council greatly appreciates the community’s patience and understanding during these works."

Further scheme information and a community liaison contact number can be found at the dedicated website www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk/community-safety/flooding/upper-garnock-fps.aspx
