North Ayrshire police spark hunt for gang of men after leaving man hospitalised

Police in North Ayrshire are appealing for information following a serious assault in Irvine on Tuesday, August 11.

The incident happened around 5.45pm on Gigha Crescent. A 53-year-old man was assaulted by four males. He suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.

Two of the male suspects are described as:

1) A teenager, around 5ft 10in with short, brown hair.

2) Aged 16 -20, around 6ft 1in with a skinhead.

There is no description of the two other male suspects involved.

Detective Sergeant Stephen McCulloch, of Saltcoats CID, said: "This was a completely unprovoked attack which has left the man with serious facial injuries.

"I am appealing to nearby residents and members of the public who heard or saw any suspicious activity in the area to contact police urgently.

"I am also appealing to anyone who was driving in the area at the time and may have dash-cam footage of people or a car matching this description to get in touch.

"If you have any information which could assist our investigation, please contact police on 101, quoting reference number 2902 of 11 August.

"Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestopppers on 0800 555 111."
