North Ayrshire police appeal to trace driver after cyclist seriously injured

Police are trying to track down a driver after a cyclist was seriously injured in North Ayrshire.

Officers say a vehicle performed a manoeuvre which caused the 62-year-old male cyclist to brake suddenly, resulting in him sustaining serious but not life threatening injuries.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock following the incident in Braes Road, Saltcoats at around 1.20pm on Thursday, April 29.

Police say the vehicle — described as a small dark or black hatchback type car — failed to stop at the scene.

The driver is described as a white male, of medium build and between 25 and 35 years old.

He was last seen wearing a light or white coloured top and shorts, dark jacket and dark skip cap.

Sergeant Kevin Blackley, of Irvine road policing unit, said: “Our enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.

“We are particularly keen to speak to the driver of the vehicle involved and we would urge anyone with further information about the driver or the car involved to get in touch.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage which may assist the investigation is asked to contact police on 101, quoting 1464 of 29 April.”
