North Ayrshire Council leader is to go live on social media to tackle questions from residents

North Ayrshire Council’s leader is set for a second public grilling on social media.

Joe Cullinane will tackle residents’ questions on the Basic Income concept in a live feed on Facebook and Twitter from 7pm on Wednesday, June 19.

It follows the success of a previous “Ask the Leader Live” session in May where the leader answered questions on the the new draft Council Plan.

North Ayrshire Council is one of four Scottish local authorities, along with Fife, City of Edinburgh and Glasgow City Councils, exploring the feasibility of introducing a Basic Income pilot into the area.

Basic Income aims to provide every citizen with a regular, unconditional payment, regardless of other forms of income.  It aims to promote equality and provide people with a basic income they can use whether they want to earn, learn, care, or set up a business.

Residents can tune into the live feed on Facebook by visiting the Customer Services, North Ayrshire Council page, or by watching on Twitter via the @NAC_Leader account.

Questions can be submitted in real-time or in advance by emailing them to: Leader@north-ayrshire.gov.uk

Councillor Cullinane said: “Given the first session went down so well, there is a clear appetite for this type of engagement.

“These sessions form part of our approach to open up our council more to our communities and residents and have real, honest and productive discussions.”
