Norris Cole makes Coronation Street comeback after Malcolm Hebden's heart attack

Norris Cole makes his big Coronation Street comeback tonight in dramatic scenes.

The fan favourite is back on the cobbles for the first time since actor Malcolm Hebden's heart attack.

The 78-year-old has been absent from the soap for over a year following the Corrie star's emergency surgery.

In a preview clip shown on today's Lorraine, Malcolm's character is seen arriving home with a bang.

Mary Taylor makes a horrifying discovery inside Number 3 and comes storming out of the house.

Coronation Street’s Freda returns with 'dead' Norris in an urn in dark twist

Corrie fans were left on a bizarre cliffhanger on Friday night as Freda Burgess returned to the Street and placed an urn next to a photo of Norris.

When she sees an estate agent at the house, Mary discovers Freda's sinister plan and becomes convinced that Norris is dead.

"What have you done," shouts Freda as she blasts horrified Mary outside the front door.

Mary flies into a fit of rage and lashes out at Freda in a hilarious fight.

Paul and Rita watch on in shock as Mary shoves her rival against the wall and claims she's "making a citizen's arrest".

"Murderer," screams Mary - just as someone pulls up in a taxi.

The florist looks like she has seen a ghost when Norris steps out of the cab.

As she gets free, Freda cries: "You are a maniac."

Stunned Norris says: "I go away for five minutes and…look."

Norris is back to ask Mary for a divorce so he can marry Freda.

But Emily's deaf niece, who last appeared in January 2010, seems very suspicious.

She previously claimed Norris was at a silent retreat, planning to sell the house and would not be coming back to Weatherfield.

She then seemingly indicated Norris was dead by putting an urn full of ashes next to his photo.

"I miss you every day," said Freda, who seems to be up to no good.

What are Norris and Freda really up to?

*Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm
