Normal People star Paul Mescal is raffling off one of his gold chains for Pieta House charity

Actor Paul Mescal has announced that he will be raffling off one of the famous chains he wore while portraying Connell in Normal People.

The 24-year-old Irish actor said that the money raised for the raffle will be donated to suicide prevention charity Pieta House.

Normal People has proved to be a domestic and international hit over the last month, with many fans being captivated by Connell and his gold chain.

An Instagram account sharing photos of Connell and his chain has also amassed more than 100,000 followers in a matter of weeks.

The Irish Mirror reports that Paul Mescal's donation to Pieta House comes as the charity faces a major funding gap. This is due to the postponement of their 'Darkness into Light' fundraiser walks, because of Covid-19.

Mescal has now added to the drive, teaming up with the suicide prevention charity to raise further cash.

Commenting on the raffling of his chain, Paul said: “I am delighted to be able to help Pieta by raffling off one of my own chains.

“Pieta is a cause very close to my heart, having experienced loss due to suicide in my local town while growing up.

“Suicide and depression are themes directly linked to Normal People especially around episodes 9 and 10 which is why I want to help those in similar situations."

The raffle will be open for two weeks from May 25, until Monday June 8.
