Normal People's Paul Mescal could play Prince Charming in Andrew Lloyd Webber musical

He seduced the nation this year with his hunky turn in hit BBC Three drama Normal People.

And Paul Mescal could get pulses racing again as Prince Charming – in Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s latest musical.

Lloyd Webber wants him for Cinderella, which is due to go ahead next year. But Mescal is busy trying to crack Hollywood so may have to do a short stint.

It comes after Lloyd Webber invited the 24-year-old Irishman to a virtual Phantom Of The Opera singalong.

A source said: “Andrew would love him to star in one of his musicals and joked how they were looking for a Prince Charming. Paul said he was really honoured and how it would be a dream to star in a West End show.

“They’ve spoken a few times and Paul is up for doing something but doesn’t want to commit long-term because he’s being inundated with offers.

“So he might do a few cameos or take it on for a couple of months.”

Cinderella was given the Hollywood treatment in a 2015 movie starring Lily James and Richard Madden.

Lloyd Webber’s stage show was due to open this autumn but has been postponed until 2021. The cast is yet to be confirmed, but Mescal got the call to join up after revealing he had made his acting debut in Phantom Of The Opera.

He discussed the school production on Irish channel RTE’s Late Late Show, with word reaching Lloyd Webber one of the world’s most sought-after actors had been in his musical.

The impresario contacted Mescal on Twitter saying: “Hi Paul! I heard you are part of the Phantom alumni, fancy a singalong?” A Delighted Mescal replied: “OMG is this a real thing?”

Mescal has recently appeared alongside Normal People co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones on other talk shows, including the Graham Norton Show on the BBC.

He featured in the video for Rolling Stones song Scarlet and has been in Greece making his first film – The Lost Daughter – with Olivia Colman and Dakota Johnson.

Speaking about the part, he said: “I’m terrified.”

Lloyd Webber declined to comment and Mescal did not respond to requests.
