Normal People's Daisy Edgar-Jones says most romantic moment of her life happened while filming in Ireland

Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones has revealed the most romantic moment of her life was when her boyfriend bought her fish fingers while filming in Ireland.

The 22-year-old London actress said Game of Thrones actor Tom Varey came over to Dublin with her when she got the dream part.

“It’s very random but the most romantic thing anyone’s ever done for me would probably be when I moved into the apartment I stayed in in Dublin when I did Normal People,” she said.

“My boyfriend came and helped me move in, and when I went out for a costume fitting he bought me a load of frozen food from Tesco.

“He filled the fridge with potato waffles and fish fingers which does not seem that romantic but genuinely that’s what I lived on for the whole four and a half months of filming.

“Every time I ate potato waffle I thought of him, so yeah, probably that – and other things. That was really nice.”

Programme Name: Normal People - TX: 26/04/2020 - Episode: n/a (No. 8) - Picture Shows: Marianne (DAISY EDGAR JONES), Connell (PAUL MESCAL) (Enda Bowe)

The star, who shot to fame playing Marianne Sheridan in the hugely popular series opposite Kildare actor Paul Mescal, was answering a series of questions posed by Harper’s Bazaar magazine in a video interview.

The actress, who has been busy filming the second series of War of the World, also described her perfect date.

“I’m a bit of a home bunny so I quite like being at home which is really sad but I would probably like to go to the theatre and see a play,” she said.

“Then you can have a little chat about what it meant for you. Or a cinema date because then you don’t have to talk.

“You can just observe something and then you know you have something to talk about afterwards because you can just talk about the play or the film, which is always really good. It’s not like an interview.”

She revealed her first ever crush was Tom Cruise when she watched Top Gun when she was aged seven.

“I came over all funny and started laughing hysterically every time Tom Cruise came on screen,” she said.

And she admitted TV show Made in Chelsea was her guilty pleasure, along with chocolate.

“I have been watching that series since it started. I will never stop, I love it.”

She said her strangest audition was for a pizza company advert. When she arrived the whole scene was snogging some “poor boy.”

“I didn’t get the job but I guess it was pretty good practice for Normal People so that is one good thing.”

The star, who played a wealthy but troubled student in an on-off love affair with a working class boyfriend with mental health issues in Normal People, said a dream role now would be playing a real baddie on screen.

“I would love to play a proper villain because I am quite a soft and smiley person so I would like to explore playing someone really evil. I think that would be really fun.”

She said if she was not an actress she would love to direct music videos.

“Love for me is when you get a really clear understanding of music suddenly,” she said.

“Music suddenly holds more potency than it did before. I always think that’s when you are falling in love. That and heartbreak is usually when music sings for you more.”

Thea actress also revealed that a very loud and unnatural screech was her party trick.

Looking ahead, she hopes to deepen her knowledge of her craft.

“I’d like to see how much I can morph and change and learn. I’m really excited to keep exploring what I can do.”
