Normal People cast to reunite for two Irish Comic Relief specials

Normal People fans are set to find out what happened to Marianne and Connell after all, thanks to two new charity specials.

The record-breaking series aired just months ago but Comic Relief co-founder Richard Curtis has revealed that the cast have filmed two new mini-episodes for the Irish version of the charity’s telethon evening.

The fundraiser takes place this Friday and speaking on RTÉ Radio 1, Curtis teased the two sketches, which will feature Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal in their lead roles.

“There’s a beautiful piece called Normal Older People, which is imagining what would have happened to Marianne and Connell 40 years from now,” he said. “I promise you, these are two very special bits.

Did they last? The tongue-in-cheek sketch will reveal all (BBC/Element Pictures/Hulu)

“It’s so much better than anything we’ve ever made. I mean I can’t even say all about it because there’s a guest star in it. But it’s really, it’s really beautiful.

“One of the things about Comic Relief is it just gives opportunities for things to happen that would never happen.

“I can’t imagine any context in which they would have allowed this little sort of extra special into the world of Normal People.

The specials will be broadcast on Irish channel RTÉ this Friday - and hopefully uploaded to YouTube so fans outside Ireland and Northern Ireland can enjoy them too.

Curtis has previously persuaded numerous TV and film casts to reunite in aid of his charity.

In March 2016, his Four Weddings and a Funeral cast reunited for another wedding while the Love Actually gang got back together in 2017.
