Norm of the North review – un-bearably dull animated Arctic saga

This uninspiring tale of talking polar bear Norm (voiced by Rob Schneider) who wants to save the Arctic from unlikely housing development plays like a bargain-bin mashup of tropes lifted from Happy Feet, Madagascar, Ice Age et al. Bill Nighy serves time as the voice of bespectacled seabird Socrates and Colm Meaney does his best to lend some gravelly gravitas to a sage elder bear, but it’s a losing battle against a ropey script and dopey story. Indeed, the film’s biggest draw is a group of weeing, farting lemmings (the British Board of Film Classification quaintly notes the presence of “toilet humour”) who serve primarily to remind just how much we’d rather be watching the Minions movie.
