Nora Quoirin: Body found in Malaysian jungle confirmed as missing teen

A body found in a Malaysian jungle has been confirmed as missing teen Nora Quoirin.

The 15-year-old, from London, was reported missing on the morning of August 4 after spending the night with her family at an eco-resort in Dunsan on the edge of the rainforest south of the capital Kuala Lumpur.

Earlier today a body was found of a Caucasian female was found in the forest surrounding the resort by search and rescue teams.

It was then transported to hospital by helicopter for identification by Meabh and Sebastien Quoirin, Nora's parents, a press conference heard.

A statement from missing persons charity the Lucie Blackman Trust said: "The Lucie Blackman Trust can confirm with great sadness that the body found today is that of missing teenager Nora Quoirin. Local police have confirmed identification.

"The charity will update as soon as possible. Please respect the family and do not approach them at this difficult time.

"All at The Lucie Blackman Trust are thinking of the family and continue to support them as they come to terms with this news."

National deputy police chief Mazlan Mansor told reporters at a press conference that a body which  "resembles Nora" had been found beside a small stream about 2.5 kilometres (1.6 miles) from the resort.

He also said the body "was not in any clothings".

On Monday, The Quoirins had said Nora's condition meant she was not independent and had difficulty walking.

Mrs Quoirin made an emotional plea and said: "Nora is our first child.

"She has been vulnerable since the day she was born.

"She is so precious to us and our hearts are breaking."

The National Crime Agency (NCA), the Metropolitan Police and Irish police were supporting the Malaysian police with the case.
