Nor'easter wreaks havoc: Heavy snow, power outages across New England

Powerful nor'easter pounding New England with snow and strong winds.

Blanketed in a sea of white, Loudon, New Hampshire and Providence, Rhode Island are feeling the powerful embrace of a ferocious nor'easter that is currently making its way through New England. The snowy conditions in New Hampshire are nothing short of breathtaking, creating a picturesque winter wonderland for residents and visitors alike.

Taking a glimpse at Massachusetts, the snowfall is steady and unrelenting, showing no signs of stopping any time soon. Located approximately 40 to 50 miles west of Boston, the region is currently experiencing a mesmerizing snowfall of around 10 inches, and the accumulation continues as if Mother Nature herself has decided to shake up a giant snow globe.

The storm made its presence known around 11 p.m. last night, and the visual impact is striking. Central Massachusetts, in particular, is feeling the brunt of this winter storm, with a hefty snowfall accumulation. With temperatures hovering in the chilly 20s and winds gusting at a brisk 20 to 35 miles per hour, the real feel is a bone-chilling 9 or 10 degrees.

While the snow may be a delightful sight for some, nor'easters like these come with their fair share of challenges. One major concern is the possibility of power outages. Massachusetts has been experiencing fluctuating numbers in the power outage department due to the strong winds and heavy snowfall. At the peak of the storm, approximately 17,000 customers found themselves without power. However, there is some relief in the update; currently, the number has dipped below 7,000. Yet, as the storm continues and the winter storm warning extends until 1 a.m. tomorrow morning, these figures are likely to fluctuate.

The roads paint a picture of resilience mixed with caution. Efforts have been made to prepare for this onslaught, with brine treatments being applied. However, underneath the pristine blanket of snow lies a treacherous layer of ice, making travel a risky endeavor.

In times like these, it's crucial to exercise extreme caution and prioritize safety. Stay updated with weather advisories and heed any warnings from local authorities. It's best to hunker down, grab a warm drink, and embrace the opportunity to curl up by the fire and indulge in the cozy comforts of winter.

Remember, this nor'easter may bring its challenges, but it also brings a certain level of awe-inspiring beauty. So, take a moment to appreciate the glistening spectacle outside your window, but do so from the warmth and safety of your own home.
