
The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games chose kyogen actor Nomura Mansai, 52, on Monday as chief director of the Games' opening and closing ceremonies.
The committee approved a system to carry out the two ceremonies at its board meeting, which was held for the first time in Fukushima Prefecture with the aim of supporting reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake.
It also chose film director Takashi Yamazaki, 54, as the team director of the Olympics, and commercial creative director Hiroshi Sasaki, 63, as the team director of the Paralympics.
