Nomination process extended for new FAI president and vice-president

The nomination process for the new FAI president and vice-president has been extended due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

Roy Barrett, the association's independent chairperson, has written to the FAI's AGM members to confirm the development.

The offices are scheduled for election at the AGM in Galway on Saturday, July 25 and nominations were due to close on Thursday, April 30.

However the FAI board are entitled under Rule 17 Part B of the association rulebook to change the date for the submission of completed nomination forms for the positions.

The board will confirm a new date for nominations based on government guidelines on the restriction of movement, which are in place until May 5 at the earliest.

Barrett also outlined that an extension of the lockdown beyond the end of May could lead to the board looking at other ways in which nominations can be submitted - and may also result in a change of arrangements for the AGM.

The FAI board is hoping to hold an EGM as soon as restrictions are lifted to set out eligibility criteria for a new board - and the electoral system to be utilised at the 2020 AGM.

Meanwhile, new Ireland boss Stephen Kenny's backroom team continues to bear his imprint following the news that Dick Redmond, who has been the senior squad's kitman for the past 21 years, has left the set-up.
