It is a classic sport among nomads and one of the most fiercely contested at Kyrgyzstan's first-ever national Nomad Games, organised by the government. The event was created to revive traditional sport and customs but it is also a global branding exercise.
Thousands of people will attend the event this week on the banks of Lake Issyk-Kul.
