Noisy scenes in Chhattisgarh legislative assembly over employees strike

RAIPUR: Opposition BJP legislators on Friday raised slogans in the Vidhan Sabha demanding a debate on their notice for adjournment motion over the strike by assistant teachers and other employees organisations to press their various demands.

As the chair disallowed the notice for adjournment motion, opposition members were on their feet raising slogans demanding a discussion over the strike. Amid noisy scenes, the house was abruptly adjourned for five minutes.

Leader of the opposition Dharamlal Kaushik said about 1.09 lakh assistant teachers across the state are on strike and police are detaining them at different places using force. He said the assistant teachers had staged a dharna for 18 days in 2021 and chief minister then had constituted a committee to look into their demands but the committee concerned is yet to submit its report. He said while in opposition Bhupesh Baghel had visited the agitation spot and assured them to fulfil their demands.

Pointing out that other employees have also given a call for a state-wide strike, Brijmohan Agrawal (BJP) said the agitating employees are demanding increase in dearness allowance. He said the state government should hold talks with the agitating government employees to resolve the crisis while Ajay Chandrakar (BJP) said the employees are on strike because of adamant attitude of the government.

Dharamjit Singh (JCC-J) said it was the duty of the government to protect the interests of its employees and ensure that the strike did not take place. Ranjana sahu (BJP) said government work would come to a standstill if the employees went on a strike. She said the Congress in its manifesto had promised to remove wage discrepancies but no steps have been taken so far.

Rajneesh Singh and Dr Krishnamurthy Bandhi (Both BJP) also demanded timely intervention to solve the problems of government employees.
