NEW DELHI: A 41-year-old woman was arrested from New Delhi for duping people on the pretext of providing flats and commercial space. The accused was identified as Shikha Tiwari, a resident of Noida Sector 93.
Joint Commissioner of Police (EOW) Chhaya Sharma said one Surendra Kumar and 11 other victims gave a joint complaint against two companies and their directors.
“The complainants had booked their flats in a group housing project in Noida in 2012. After an agreement between the company and the complainants, the alleged company assured to give them possession by August 2013,” police said.
However, they stopped construction in early 2015 and when the complainants contacted the company officials, they were informed that they ran out of funds. It was also found that the alleged company did not have the necessary approval from state and central agencies to develop the project. “The money allegedly cheated was approximately Rs 5.5 crore,” police said.
Similarly, in another case, one Sharad Suri was duped on the pretext of investment in the company’s alleged projects.
“The complainant invested approximately Rs 25 crore in the projects. They allegedly did not complete the projects and abandoned them after misappropriation of funds,” police said.
