NOIDA: Determined to improve its Swachh Suveskshan 2022 ranking, the Noida Authority on Friday directed its engineering wing to undertake repairs of all broken footpaths and roads and also spruce up market complexes and common areas to make sure that the city wears a new look ahead of the next survey.
In the last survey, Noida was ranked the fourth cleanest among cities having a population between 3-10 lakh. However, the city stood at 11th position in the overall Swachh Suveskshan ranking 2021.
At a meeting, Noida CEO Ritu Maheshwari asked the engineering wing to strive for the first position this time. Some of the important measures discussed at the meeting included setting up bio-toilets at construction sites and maintenance of urinals in the markets to curb open defecation.
Other key work areas discussed were maintenance of drains, beautification and restricting usage of plastic in the vendor zones, pavement and walkway maintenance, and putting up signage boards close to the public urinals, officials said.
Chief general manager of the authority, Rajiv Tyagi said that work areas were divided and delegated to the senior managers during the meeting. “We are going to start with toilets and urinals in public places. How to keep them clean on a daily basis would be our first goal. Though we have contractors to keep them clean, we keep getting complaints.”
The survey team had earlier told the Authority to ensure the toilet complex and peripheral area in the Sector 18 market is free of encroachment and haphazard parking. On Friday itself, shopkeepers from the Sector 18 market raised their complaints about the dirty condition of the toilet block.
Established in 1976, though the city was developed as a planned industrial town, it has failed to secure the Top-10 slot in the overall ranking so far.
