Noida: Sunday lessons for these bikers on road safety

NOIDA: The traffic police and a group of residents conducted an awareness drive for youths who hit the expressways on superbikes every Sunday. DCP (traffic) Ganesh Saha led a team to school the bikers on road safety and discipline.

On April 3, a group of 60 youths riding high-end superbikes were asked to return to Delhi from Kalindi Kunj and the DND Flyway by the traffic cops in Noida. The bikers were given warnings against speeding and were told not to disrupt the flow of traffic.

Apart from the traffic cops, members of the 7x welfare team and local residents took part in the awareness drive on Sunday. Brajesh Sharma, a member of the 7x welfare team, said, “Every Sunday, we get to see news reports on these bikers. Today, we met with Prashant Tiwari of the transport department and discussed the rules about biking on the expressways. The group of bikers was also present.”

Akash Awana (23), who has a real estate job, hit the road on his superbike every Sunday. “On the DND, the traffic cops guided us on road safety. We were told to share the information among other bikers as well. They gave us a helpline number too,” he said.

DCP (traffic) Saha said, “We don’t want any of these riders to disturb the flow of traffic on the expressways. We also want them to ensure their safety and follow the rules. That is why we conducted this awareness drive.”
