Noida man backs Udaipur tailor’s beheading, held

NOIDA: A 23-year-old Noida resident was arrested on Thursday for allegedly supporting the recent beheading of the Udaipur tailor through his social media post. A written complaint was made by another resident, following which he was arrested.

The accused has been identified as Asif Khan, a resident of Chaprauli village near Sector 168. He works as a welder at his father’s shop.

“On Wednesday evening, we received a complaint from a resident of Chaprauli village that his friend had made an inappropriate comment which supported the killing of the Udaipur tailor,” said Sudhir Kumar, SHO of the Expressway police station.

A case under sections 505 (2) (offence at a place of worship or religious gathering) and 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with the intent to insult any religion) of the IPC was registered against Asif and he was arrested. After the arrest, Asif apologised and said he it was a mistake. “He was sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway,” the SHO said.

Meanwhile, joint commissioner of Noida police Love Kumar said that they have been continuously meeting religious leaders and asking them and other residents to maintain peace and not indulge in inflammatory posts on social media that can disturb the law and order in the district.

“Till now, there is no law and order situation in the district. However, we are on alert and taking all precautions after the Udaipur incident and people are helping us in maintaining peace. A dedicated team is continuously monitoring the social media as well,” Kumar said.
