Noida: E-rickshaw driver dies after being hit by car

NOIDA: A 29-year-old e-rickshaw driver died after a head-on collision of his vehicle with a Mercedes car near Nithari on Friday. An FIR has been registered against the driver of the Mercedes.

The accused has been identified as Anand Ranjan, a resident of Jal Vayu Vihar in Sector 25, while the e-rickshaw driver was Ravi Kumar, according to police.

During an investigation, it was found that Ranjan, who works with an IT company in Sector 63, was on his way to work when his Mercedes Benz C Class had a head-on collision with Kumar’s e-rickshaw on Friday morning. Kumar was critically injured.

“We received information about the accident around 9.30am. Kumar was taken to a private hospital in Sector 33. The Mercedes driver also accompanied us,” said Manoj Kumar, SHO of Sector 20 police station.

“Ravi succumbed to his injuries during treatment. We informed his family members and sent the body for an autopsy,” the SHO further said.

After a complaint by Kumar’s family, Ranjan was booked under sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (death by negligence) and 427 (mischief causing damage) of the IPC.

Meanwhile, speaking to TOI, Ranjan claimed that Kumar was driving on the wrong side, which led to the collision. After the accident, it was Ranjan who took Kumar to hospital, he said.

“Further investigation in the case is underway. We are also checking CCTV footage to ascertain who was driving on the wrong side and if any of them was speeding,” the SHO said.
