To the east of Paris lies the surburb of Nogent-sur-Marne. Since the end of the 19th century, it’s been a home-from-home for generations of Italian immigrants. Our team went to meet some of the residents of this "Little Italy".
By the 1930s, France was the biggest destination for Italians leaving their homeland. Many came to work in the construction sector and helped build much of Nogent-sur-Marne itself, including its renowned viaduct.
In Nogent, many originated from the same region in northern Italy, encouraging them to create a village-like community much like the one they had left behind.
And for many, it was vital to keep in touch with their roots and pass on their gastronomic traditions to the next generation – with a little taste of home.
