Noel Gallagher has revealed he doesn’t know what the lyrics to Oasis’s hit song “Champagne Supernova” mean.

The (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?  track is among the band’s most revered songs. Gallagher, however, said that he recently started to question the meaning of its lyrics when he was performing it on tour.

During an appearance on SiriusXM to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the acclaimed album, he recalled: “I was on my last tour and I was playing ‘Champagne Supernova’. That song is so long and I often find myself drifting off enjoying the song and thinking: ‘What f**ing does it mean?’”

He went on to recite some of its most famous lyrics: “You know, ‘Walking down the hall faster than a cannonball’ – what the f*** is all that about? And I should know because I wrote it, and I haven’t got a clue.”

The singer also spoke about the lasting power of the track across generations.

“I was somewhere in the north of England and I happened to glance up at the crowd,” he said. “It was just a sea of teenagers, all young lads, all their tops off on each other’s shoulders, singing the words of a nonsensical song by a band that were broken up… they were two years old when the band f***ing broke up."

He added: “So I think to myself sometimes, you know, ‘That’s what it means. Because we recorded it and it was written while we were still relatively young.

"It still appeals to young people, and it’s gone through three or four generations now.”

The 53-year-old was recently criticised by his brother and former band member Liam Gallagher for not including him in the anniversary celebrations of their album.

Liam tweeted at his brother: “The thing is rite it’s a sad existence to think it’s all about you breaks my heart.”
