Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds at Cardiff Castle review

If you were wondering what the noise was in Cardiff city centre on Friday night, there was definitely a party in town.

Noel Gallagher kicked off the upcoming summer calendar of music in style at Cardiff Castle.

The Oasis legend brought his High Flying Birds to the iconic Welsh venue and music location, with thousands of fans were well up for it.

Arriving on stage dead on schedule at 9pm, Noel’s choice of opening songs just shows his stock  a solo artist, with an Oasis track not appearing until seven songs in.

The older, and some might say wiser, Gallagher brother opened with Holy Mountain - which was greeted with religious zeal.

And the quality tunes continued to flow one after the other - Beautiful World and She Taught Me How To Fly along as well as new single Black Star Dancing.

And there was also his trademark witty Mancunian banter too.

"I can see by the leisurewear there’s a lot of Oasis fans here," he quipped.

And with that he launched into a handful of Oasis' anthemic tunes that fans just couldn't get enough of.

The B-side that puts most bands hits singles to shame Talk Tonight drew a rapturous response.

And The Importance of Being Idle - which starred Rhys Ifans in its accompanying promo video - saw the audience get their bouncing boots on.

Then there was Little By Little, which prompted a deafening singalong usually reserved for the rugby.

Half The World Away, an acoustic version of Wonderwall and Stop Crying Your Heart Out were also given a good cuffing, while Noel and the crowd both out did their earlier efforts by belting out Don’t Look Back In Anger with goosebump inducing gusto.

There was even time for a quick gag about Neil Warnock asNoel dedicated For All You Need Is Love to the Cardiff City manager, who he described as "the angriest man in Wales".

There was also a warm reception for the support acts Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, Cardiff's fast-rising stars Boy Azooga, and former Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes.
