Noel Gallagher didn't realise he was a feminist until his wife told him

Noel Gallagher has revealed that he is “absolutely” a feminist, but claims he was unaware of this fact until his wife, Sara Macdonald, pointed it out to him.

“I didn’t realise until my wife told me I was and I said: ‘Really? Well, I’ve got to announce that to the world then,’” the former Oasis frontman told TheGuardian.

“But definitely, I am. When you’ve got a teenage daughter, you better get with it pretty quick.”

Gallagher has three children, Anaïs, 19 – whose mother is his ex-wife Meg Matthews – and two sons with MacDonald, Donovan, 11, and Sonny, eight.

Anaïs, a budding photographer and model, is a regular at Gallagher’s gigs, the musician revealed, explaining that she gives him an insight into the mind of a teenage girl.

“She comes to my gigs with her teenage pals now and… it’s something else, believe me,” he said.

“They can talk to you, lucidly, without missing a beat, while texting someone in Ghana, while buying a pair of shoes and listening to music at the same time ... who invented these people?”

Gallagher has spoken out about feminism before, telling NPR that Macdonald once listed all of the various reasons why he was a feminist.

“She was like ‘Well, you treat women as equals, and there’s no misogyny and there’s no sexism.’”

The 52-year-old also described himself as both “modern” and “old-fashioned” in the Guardian interview.

But when asked how he feels about gender fluidity in the interview, Gallagher was at a loss.

“What’s that? I know what gender I am – Mancunian.”
