Noel Gallagher admits he was 'shocked' by Man City participation in European Super League

Manchester City super-fan Noel Gallagher has revealed he was "shocked" by his club's involvement in the setting up of a European Super League earlier this year.

Twelve of Europe's biggest clubs, including the Premier League's 'Big Six' - Man City, Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham - were all involved in setting up a breakaway European Super League to combat against the UEFA Champions League, putting the future of English football's pyramid at risk.

After intense fan backlash and protests, all six English clubs pulled out of the planned move with City leading the way by being the first to do so.

The Premier League confirme d a fine of £22m earlier this week, plus new rules to stop the breakaway from happening again in the future which include a 30 point deduction for any team that attempts it.

Gallagher, who is famed for fronting the band Oasis in his heyday, says he was shocked to find out his club was involved but absolved manager Pep Guardiola of any blame.

Speaking exclusively to Manchester Evening New s, Gallagher said: "I was shocked at my club for being involved. I was shocked at my club joining that group who have gone out of their way to destroy our reputation. That is shocking.

"I can't accept for one second that Pep would be into this."

Gallagher blamed greedy American owners for the scheme and also took a shot at fellow rivals Tottenham, claiming they had no right to be in the competition anyway.

"Unfortunately this is what happens when you let American idiots into British culture, this is an American thing, and I can't accept that my club has got into bed with American Idiots.

"The most disturbing thing about it was, who the f*** put Tottenham in the conversation?! What's all that about, since when have Arsenal and Tottenham been in league cups, they've not won anything in about 10 years.

"Tottenham? Tottenham? Don't lump us in with that shower of s***."

City will instead find themselves defending their Premier League crown next season after winning the league by 12 points last season, and will find out their fixtures for the new campaign next week.
