At this ghoulish time of year, Noel Gallagher admits he is still haunted by his criminal record.
The former Oasis rocker reflects on life growing up with brother Liam in Manchester and confesses he was “arrested a few times for shoplifting, robbery”.
He says: “Family life was a bit like The Royle Family, but with added violence and tension.
“It was the 70s and then leading into the 80s and Thatcher, unemployment and all that.
“My mam was working two jobs to try and make ends meet.
“They were bleak times. There wasn’t a great deal to do apart from get into trouble – smoke weed, sniff glue, listen to music, go to football. That was it.
“I don’t look back on them with any romance whatsoever.
“But then again when I look back on them, they don’t fill me with any dread either – it was just growing up.
“I was arrested a few times for shoplifting, robbery, all of which f***ing haunt me to this day.
“I’ve still got a police record. If you’re caught three times, you pretty much know that you’re not destined for a life of crime.”
Noels adds: “If I’d have got away with it a bit more I might have been like a proper gangster, but I was sh** at it."
