Noel Fielding reacts to 'absurd' Matt Lucas quitting Great British Bake Off news

The Great British Bake Off's Noel Fielding is 'so sad' after hearing the news that co-star Matt Lucas has quit the show.

Matt, 48, took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce he won't be back to host the next series of the baking competition.

He has been at the helm of it alongside Noel for the last three series.

As it 'became clear' he couldn't host Bake Off along with his other projects, he decided to 'pass the baguette' on to someone else.

Following the announcement, Noel took to Instagram to share a picture of him and Matt in the Bake Off tent.

"So sad that @realmattlucas is leaving the show ! Farewell buddy thank you for 3 amazing years," he captioned the post.

"I will really miss your spark and huge smile in the tent and I will miss your kindness as a person and to all the bakers. I will miss your sense of the absurd and your silliness. I will miss all the times the four of us giggled together."

He added: "I will miss your ability to turn into a fully formed character at the drop of a hat. I will miss you pretending to be Boris Johnson singing David Bowie songs and i will miss your upbeat nature and positive vibes.

"You are a huge comic talent but also a lovely man and a good friend. I wish you luck on your next adventure and look forward to watching as a fan.

"See you in the real world soon buddy. Don’t forget “ It’s all about the showstopper “ x x x @realmattlucas x."

Paul and Prue also bid the star farewell from the show (Channel 4)

Judge Paul Hollywood also said his goodbyes with a photo shared on Instagram on Tuesday evening.

He said: "Sorry you’re leaving us @realmattlucas, you’ll be so missed by everyone. You made me laugh so much in the tent, your characters are epic, I was a massive fan of yours before you came to the tent, now I’ll always be your number one fan.

"Good luck in everything you do … X."

Fellow judge Prue Leith was the first to react to his departure from the show, writing: "I have absolutely loved working with you @RealMattLucas.

"Thank you for bringing so much laughter and fun to the tent. x Prue."

Matt said it was a 'delicious experience' being part of Bake Off and revealed he will continue to watch the show.

"Farewell Bake Off! It's been a delicious experience and I can't imagine a more fun way of spending my summers. But it's become clear to me that I can't present both Fantasy Football League and Bake Off alongside all my other projects," he wrote on Twitter .

"So, after three series and 51 episodes, I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else."

He added: "I would like to give my warmest thanks and gratitude to everyone at Love Productions and Channel 4 and to Noelipops, Paul, Dame Prue, the crew and, of course, the wonderful bakers for welcoming me into the tent.

"I wish whoever takes over the very best and I can't wait to tune into the next series without already knowing who won!"
