Noel Edmonds faces backlash after releasing tank lobsters into sea

Noel Edmonds said he and his wife Liz Davies released two lobsters into the sea after feeling “uncomfortable” seeing them in a tank on the Isle of Man.

The former Deal or No Deal host, 77, posted a video on Instagram showing the couple at Peel Breakwater.

Edmonds explained that they bought the crustaceans to release them.

“We were at a place where there were some lobsters in a tank, and we're a little bit uncomfortable about lobsters in tanks,” Edmonds explained.

“We know this is nice fresh water, because a moment ago a seal went past.”

While some social media users, including others who said they had also released tank lobsters into the sea, celebrated the move, others criticised the couple’s decision.

One person said: “Lovely sentiment, but from a marine biologist perspective it’s best not to release captive lobster. Disease transfer and genetic mixing are real concerns to native populations.”
